We welcome our Archbishop

Feb. 22-23: Archbishop Nikon visited our parish for Meatfare Sunday celebrations.

His Eminence, Nikon, Archbishop of Boston, New England, and the Albanian Archdiocese visits us annually on this weekend. Meatfare literally means, “farewell to meat,” since we take our first steps towards the Great Fast—Lent—which this year began March 3. As a last hurrah, we hold a Meatfare Dinner each year, a week before Lent.

In addition to Archbishop Nikon, we were honored to welcome Protodeacon Paul Nimchek, Deacon Gregory Curran, Subdeacon Michael Arida, and Subdeacon Nectarii Lukianov. Archbishop Nikon also blessed faithful altar server LeRoy Cyprian Thibeau to wear the subdeacon’s orarion. Many years!

The day was a beautiful (and delicious!) occasion, and the remnants of past winter storms did not keep away too many of our members. Thanks go out to the coordinators, the parish council, the choir, the altar servers, and all those who worked hard to provide hospitality on Meatfare Sunday.
